Glenn Glasgow, Lead Workplace Violence Consultant, recognized in "Believe in Better," Campaign

Workplace Violence Prevention’s very own Lead Workplace Violence Prevention Consultant, Glenn Glasgow, has been recognized for his impeccable verbal de-escalation skills!

Recently, Glenn Glasgow demonstrated how vital and strong verbal de-escalation skills are in a crisis, and the importance of trauma-informed responses, particularly communication, are during a crisis.

The Workplace Violence Prevention team was alerted of an escalated patient situation involving inappropriate electronic communications, and Glasgow offered to assist the affected employee and department.

Glasgow quickly stepped in to communicate with the patient in order to establish professional boundaries between staff and patients. Upon his initial communications with the patient, he determined the patient was experiencing a mental health crisis and was able to verbally de-escalate the situation and demonstrate compassion as he listened to the patient. Glasgow’s knowledge in trauma-informed communication and threat assessment skills helped him identify what the patient’s underlying issue was-life stressors. Glasgow was able to identify the underlying issue by listening with care, guiding the conversation with compassion and supportive recommendations if the patient was experiencing thoughts of self-harm.

Glasgow was reconnected with the distressed patient days later, when the patient reached out to personally thank Glasgow and crediting him for his advice and words, which saved the patient’s life.

Glasgow, along with the entire Workplace Violence Prevention Team, are committed to ensuring safety, fostering supportive, nonjudgemental, and empathetic communication and compassion for every crisis.

The department is extremely proud to see Glasgow be honored for the "Believe in Better," campaign which shares stories from patients and employees about how compassion, innovation and excellence are brought forth throughout the organization.
