Academic Personnel Administration: Advancement

This course covers policies for appraisals, merits, promotions, career equity reviews, deferrals, preliminary assessments and appeals for both non-tenured and tenured actions.

Course Description

Do you have any involvement with the review or advancement of academic appointees? Do you find the policies and requirements challenging and confusing? This course is designed to help you better understand and interpret the policies and practices associated with the academic review process for both Academic Senate and Academic Federation appointees. Covered in the course are policies for appraisals, merits (including “barrier” steps), promotions, career equity reviews, deferrals, preliminary assessments and appeals for both non-tenured and tenured actions. This course also covers voting processes for peer review, governing Senate By-laws (55) and Federation processes.

Note: This course is intended for staff who currently work with academic personnel matters. This course was previously offered as two half-day courses and is now a one-day course.
