Death of Employee Response Process

When an employee of our UC Davis or UC Davis Health community passes away, it is a loss to us all. We strive to be supportive and compassionate during these difficult times.

We offer many supportive services to help navigate individual needs, and those of family and colleagues.

Reporting an Employee Death

If you learn of the death of a UC Davis or UC Davis Health staff, faculty, academic, or student employee, please contact us at 530-757-8963. The UC Davis Beneficiary Care Coordinator (BCC) in Payroll Services can walk you through the next steps.

The BCC will communicate with UCPath to coordinate the death process between UC Davis and the deceased employee’s beneficiaries.

The University of California flag is flown at half-staff at the Memorial Union, Mrak Hall, Fire Station 34 and the UC Davis Airport for three days to honor deceased students, staff, faculty and faculty emeriti.

When the flag is at half-staff, a memorial card is posted on the flagpole to recognize the memory of that individual. An "In Memorium" article is also posted on the Memorial Union website.
