Health Net Available Through Calendar Year 2027 — Planning for 2028

Health Net, the health insurance company that administers the UC Blue & Gold HMO plan, recently announced it will end service in California after the 2027 calendar year.

Health Net has confirmed it will continue administering the UC Blue & Gold HMO plan through December 2027. 

Health Net's announcement has raised understandable questions about the future of the UC Blue & Gold HMO beginning in 2028 and more clarity is provided below.

For UC, maintaining UC Blue & Gold is a priority. The plan provides access to UC medical centers and providers, including UC Davis Health, as well as a variety of regional medical services. We understand how important this choice is for many of our employees and their families.

Health Net is just one administrator capable of handling the day-to-day operations of the UC Blue & Gold HMO plan. The UC Office of the President (UCOP), which manages UC’s medical plans systemwide, including UC Blue & Gold, confirmed they are searching for a new administrator to replace Health Net.

UC Davis leadership is working closely with UCOP and advocating for the selection of a strong partner to administer UC Blue & Gold. We will share information as it becomes available so our employees can make informed enrollment decisions prior to the change.

For now, there is nothing you need to do differently related to Health Net’s announcement.
