Retirements

Congratulations to HR  Generalist Luisa Mattis for over 15 years of service.  She is excited to start her retirement journey with plans to move to Florida!  Luisa's first job with UCD was with the Chancellor's office handling Payroll/HR for several  years, then moved on to the Shared Services Center supporting FOA and IET with the Payroll unit, and then moved into the role of HR Generalist. Luisa's last day in the office was 5/20/2022.

Congratulations to Budget/Compensation Analyst and Clinical Incentive Coordinator Sandra Babington for over 34 years of service.  She is well known and regarded across the Davis Health Organization and will be missed by many as she starts a new adventure and home away from the heat of Sacramento summers down on the cool and breezy central coast.  Sandy's last day in the office is 4/29/2022, retiring on 6/29/2022.

Congratulations to Director of Executive Programs and Recruitment Julie Fritz for over 35 years of service. Julie has served in various roles at UC Davis, including as Assistant Dean for Academic Personnel and Human Resources in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.  She started with the University in 1986 and built a career, advancing through the ranks along the way. She will continue to work through 6/23/2022.

Raquel Jackson (TES) Ticon III HR Front Receptionist has moved on.  Mary Sales (TES) is now filling that role.


Retirements 

Congratulations to FOA’s Vice Chancellor Kelly Ratliff for 35 years of service. VC Ratliff started working for UC Davis after graduating with her bachelor’s degree, as a “principal clerk” in the backroom of a veterinary lab in 1987 and plans to retire from the Vice Chancellor role in May 2022.  As Kelly stated, “Who gets to do this, start as a principal clerk and end as vice chancellor? It’s pretty awesome.”

Congratulations to UC Davis Health Chief Financial Officer Tim Maurice for his years of service. He has been the CFO since 2011, responsible for the financial operations of UC Davis Health, including the School of Medicine, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, UC Davis Medical Center, clinics and the faculty practice plan.  He planned to retire as of March 2022.

Congratulations to Staff Development Training Program Manager Kelly Crabtree for 35 years of service.  Kelly implemented the employee, career and management development programs and models the saying, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” Kelly's last day is June 29th.

Congratulations to TES Supervisor Leana Quant-Faragasso for 35 years of service. Leana joined UC Davis in 1987, and throughout her 35 years of service has exemplified dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence. Leana’s last day is April 22 as she will be enjoying a well-deserved vacation before officially retiring on June 29.

Congratulations to Employee Relations Consultants Dede Wehman and Terri De La Mora for over 30 years of service each. Terri looks forward to joining her husband in retirement and having more time to travel and be outdoors biking and swimming. Dede looks forward to moving to Monterey in the fall, walks on the beach, golfing, and enjoying time with her family.  Their last day is June 29.

 


August, 2021 UPDATES

 

Health Talent Acquisition

Hilary Wolf and Beatrice McCrea’s last day with Talent Acquisition is July 7th.

Hilary Wolf has been with the University since 2017. She started out as TES Administrative Assistant in 2017 and promoted to different positions within Talent Acquisition. As an assistant, Hilary was instrumental in streamlining the skill survey process which led to her poster presentation during the HR Symposium in 2019. Most recently, as a Talent Acquisition Partner, she has worked with different Departments such as Pharmacy, Cancer Center, Purchasing, Neurology, EVS, PCN, SOM units among others in providing recruitment services. 

Beatrice McCrea has been with the University since 2016. She joined the Nurse Recruitment Team in 2019. She has provided recruitment services to Ambulatory, PCS, among others. Most recently she has taken on the Advanced Practice Provider positions. She has been instrumental in multiple process improvement projects within Talent Acquisition and also led the TA Team Engagement which helped create opportunities to increase engagement within the team.

Please join us in thanking Hilary and Beatrice for their contributions to the organization as well as wish them well in their new adventures.


Campus Talent Acquisition

Please welcome our newest team member to the Campus Talent Acquisition Partner/Recruiter Team : Gabriel (Gabe) Choi!

Gabe brings specialized experience and expertise in recruitment, building collaborative relationships, and providing strategic leadership and insight in higher education settings. Gabe comes to us from Azusa Pacific University where he made significant contributions as a Talent Acquisition Specialist/Recruiter. He also earned his Master of Business in Human Resources Management at Azusa Pacific University in 2019 and received his SHRM-CP certification in 2020. When he’s not working, Gabe loves to explore new places, take frequent trips to In-N-Out, and spend time with his family and friends. All in all, Gabe is an enthusiastic, positive, and extremely driven team player who we look forward to working and growing with at UC Davis for many years to come.  Welcome aboard Gabe!! 


WorkForce Strategies 

We are excited to announce that Stacey Bianco has joined the Workforce Strategies team! Stacey received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from UC Davis where she developed a fascination with applying science in studying change in the environment and nature.  This background continues to drive her interest in using analysis to interpret raw data into actionable plans for improvement which will be a great boon for our team. Stacey joined UC Davis over 10 years ago and most recently served in HR’s Executive Programs and Recruitment Office where she gained vast experience with both Human Resources and other University offices. In her new role, Stacey will be working on projects that enhance our workforce by aligning people, processes, and technology such as Exit Surveys, Staff Experience, and UCPath.

It is with both joy and a hint of sadness that I announce Michelle Wong-Abellana will soon be transferring from UC Davis to join the UC Office of the President where she will serve in the Systemwide Compensation Office as Director, Compensation Project.  Michelle is an alumni of UC Davis who began working here in February of 2014 after a successful career with the Executive Branch of the State of California.  She first served at UCD as the Campus Compensation Manager during which time she successfully implemented Career Tracks at UCD.  She then went on to serve as the Workforce Administration Lead for UCPATH implementation, worked on the classification system upgrade project, and most recently has been supporting a variety of UC Davis COVID-19 related programs such as matching employees without work due to campus closures to other work opportunities, and establishing COVID-19 Testing Kiosks and Vaccination Clinics.  Michelle’s exceptional leadership, extensive network, and experience with successful project management efforts as well as her expertise in systems implementation will make her an exceptional fit in her new role, and we will miss her tremendously.  Michelle’s last day with UC Davis is Friday, July 16.

Anna Cruz, HR Supervisor is a SF Bay Area native who attended Golden Gate University and received her Bachelor's degree in Business Management. She started her career at UC Davis with the Academic Unit Shared Service Unit (AUSS-C) and has spent the last 3 years as an HR Analyst in Enrollment Management. She is now an HR Supervisor. Anna's favorite activity is traveling to new destinations and spending time with her beloved dog.

Liberty Ruiz, Records Team Lead has been has been working with UCD Health for the past 20 years and 7 months. She started working with UCDH Payroll for 10 years and currently with HR Records for 10 years including being an interim lead for the last 2 years. As Lead, her role plays an important part in leading the team on day-to-day operations. Her extensive experience has been helpful in supporting the team supervisor to meet the goals of the department.

Nneka Anderson, Records Team is a UC Davis alum with degrees in Sociology and African American & African Studies. She spent 20 years in the utility industry, holding various roles in customer service, learning & development, and human resources. However, her heart never left UCD and she is absolutely thrilled to be back. Still deeply intrigued by human behavior, she spends her time studying self-improvement and coaching for positive change as a HR Generalist

Michael Kanan, Recruitment Coordinator Lead started with UCDH as a TES recruitment coordinator in August 2018 and moved into his career position in June 2019. Prior, he worked in a psychiatric hospital admitting and discharging patients. Outside of work, he is usually caring for the menagerie of animals his husband and he have including dogs, a bird, a tortoise, and reptiles. 

 

Nicole Bilich and Amy Murphy stepped into new HR leadership roles on May 1st. As managers overseeing the HRBP team and HR services at Health, they will be partnering very closely with UCDH leadership and play an instrumental role in ensuring operational and strategic alignment of HR services to the business needs of the organization.

Nicole is returning to the UCD Health campus after spending 1 year and ½ on the Davis Campus serving as the HR Director for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Prior to that, Nicole served as the HR Business Partner for Professional Services supporting Hospital Operations programs. Nicole brings over 18 years of HR leadership and management experience positioning HR as a true business partner. She has proven ability to work with senior management to integrate the human resources function into the overall business operating strategy enabling long-term human resources and business success. Nicole has special expertise in human resource department development and redesigns with an in-depth knowledge of all Human Resources areas from a process and management perspective. She holds an MBA in Strategic Leadership and certifications in Labor Studies & Employment Relations and Change Management.  5/26 Update:  Nicole Bilich will be leaving her role at UCDHS as of Friday, June 4th.  She has recently accepted a role with Amazon leading one of its many HR Operations teams

Amy is a seasoned HR management professional with over 13 years experience. Starting in November 2017, Amy served as an HR Business Partner for Professional Services supporting Hospital Operations programs. Previous to UCD Health, Amy spent 21 years with the State of California serving in numerous HR leadership roles with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC). Amy has extensive experience working in a union environment and enjoys supporting executive leadership with employee engagement, conflict resolution, and strategic planning. While serving as the Director of HR for the DMHC, Amy was instrumental in developing and leading multiple process improvement initiatives for greater operational efficiency and measured results. One of her big wins was an automated vacancy review and hiring process that enabled any submitter to review their request in live time and simultaneously created a position description repository, reducing the hiring timeline by roughly 30 days. Amy is a known change agent and has made strategic improvements in recruitments, classifications, and performance management, and has experience representing the State in administrative hearings before the CA Department of Human Resources.  

Jarrett Rodger, HR Project Manager and Performance Improvement Consultant. In this newly created role, Jarrett will be primarily responsible for providing advanced expertise for HR process improvement, organizational workflow alignment, and capacity development to drive operational efficiencies for HR services. Jarett comes to us with 15 years of experience at Kaiser Permanente where he developed a unique background that includes extensive experience both as an HR professional and performance improvement consultant. During his tenure at Kaiser, he has held various positions including Operations Manager, Senior Lean improvement advisor/UBT consultant, and HR manager. With extensive experience in delivering creative strategies that drive transformation across people, processes, and systems, Jarrett takes pride in building trusting partnerships across the organization and at all levels. He is trained as a Certified Improvement Advisor Green Belt Lean/Six Sigma and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Public Policy from the University of San Francisco.    


Employee and Labor Relations

Natasha Costa, Employee Relations Consultant is a Fresno native who received her Bachelors in Accounting from Fresno Pacific University and J.D. from UC Davis School of Law. During law school, she interned in the legal departments of Procore Technologies, Elevate Services, and USAA. During her last year of law school, she was a law clerk for the Department of Justice in their Fresno US Attorney's Office. Immediately prior to accepting her position at UC Davis she was a labor relations representative for the California School Employees Association representing union chapters throughout the Bakersfield area. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and attending sporting events.  


WorkForce Strategies 

Dedra Hamilton has been with UC Davis for 15+ years and comes to Workforce Strategies from her most recent position with AUSS-C. Dedra will be working on operational change management and communications for HR applications, including UCPath, where her experience with the system will be invaluable as a Business System Analyst. In her spare time, Dedra enjoys camping and loves to have a good TV series to binge-watch. 

Archana Hedaoo is a mom to a 3-year-old adorable girl and an experienced Data Analyst with ten years experience in Hospital, Education and Retail. Archana is also trained in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with an MBA from the University of Massachusetts. Originally from India, relocation to USA was a pivotal point in her life in many ways. Healthcare and Technology is her passion and she considers her current position at UC Davis Health as the perfect place to be.


Health Talent Acquisition

Krista Moses is an Ukiah, California native who received her Bachelor of Science, Human Resources degree from Chico State. She started her career as a Corporate Recruiter and later joined UC Davis Campus as a Talent Acquisition Partner in 2015. Krista brings over 8 years of HR and recruitment strategy experience. She has a proven ability to work with candidates, managers, and HR partners across Campus and now at the Health System. She has adept knowledge with onboarding, recruitment, screening, interviewing and HR processes. In her free time, Krista and her husband enjoy fishing, boating, and all of the many outdoor activities that Lake Tahoe has to offer. She also loves spoiling and playing with her two fur babies, Bella & Elle.

Camille Silva remains a member of the Workforce Strategies team as an administrative assistant and will also be cross-training/working in Talent Acquisition. Her career with UC Davis began in 2007 with the Sexual Harassment Education Program (SHEP). From there she transitioned to veterinary medicine and spent extensive time working at VMTH. When she’s not working, Camille enjoys spending time with her family (including our 4-year-old terrier mix) and providing wellness support (to myself & others) through yoga, meditation, and energy healing modalities.

Kimberly DeVaughn started her career nearly 11 years ago, as a Junior Specialist for the Pathology and Lab Medicine Department. Her career advanced quickly, working as an Administrative Assistant, a Lab Manager, and for several departments as a HR and Academic Personnel Analyst. She joined Human Resources over four and a half years ago as a Talent Acquisition Partner, but her passion is teaching and training others. Prior to UCD Health, she was a radio deejay for a season for the Sacramento River Cats, sold Volvo’s, created and sold radio advertisements, taught preschool, and worked as a Pharmacy Ancillary. In her free time, she coaches her son’s single-A baseball team, is a member of the Go Ruck community, takes white water kayaking/surf lessons, is a diehard San Francisco Giants/San Francisco 49ers fan/college football fan, and can be found out in the Desolation Wilderness with her bluetick coonhound.

Derek Sanders recently joined the Health Talent Acquisition team as a Talent Acquisition Partner.


Retirements

Monica Castillo, Compensation Assistant, will be retiring from UCD on May 24th after a fruitful career.  She began her career at UC Campus in 1995 working in Information Resources. In 2000, she accepted a position at UC Health working at the Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Later, in 2004, she accepted a position in the Department of Neurology.  In 2008, she went to work in Food and Nutrition Services until 2016 when she accepted her current position in Human Resources Compensation.  Says Monica, "I feel very grateful to have had an amazing experience at UC during my 25 years.  My passion and expertise has been in HR which has been a wonderful experience.   I am truly going to miss all the interaction but am moving on to enjoy the relaxation of traveling and spending quality time with my entire family.  Later perhaps I'll volunteer in the community, giving back in a positive way and helping others.  I wish everyone well at UC in their future careers."

Diane Frausto will be leaving the University on June 11.  Diane began her UC Davis journey in April 2012 as an extern in HR, giving 240 hours of her time to learn as much as possible in the Administration Department, Records, and Employee & Labor Relations. She was ultimately hired as a career employee on October 1, 2012 in the Records Department. Some of the very important work she performed was processing subpoenas as the Custodian of Records, processing the monthly service awards for all of UC Davis Health, and coordinating file reviews for employees and Managers/Supervisors.  In May 2017, through an HR reorganization, Diane transitioned from SSO Records to the HR Internal Operations and Facilities Management team. She assisted with many projects and initiatives related to building space management. Her facilities management expertise and understanding of resources helped to ensure each project was successful. She made many contributions to improve safety and security at Ticon III. As she heads into retirement, Diane is looking forward to spending more time with her parents and other family members.  

Shereef Abdou, Nurse Recruitment Supervisor, has accepted  a position outside of UC Davis Health. Shereef joined UC Davis Health four years ago and has been instrumental in some key initiatives such as the implementation of TAM (Talent Acquisition Module) and Nurse Recruitment Rapid Hire process, as well as establishing recruitment metrics for Nurse Recruitment.  Shereef’s last working day will be on May 28th.

Academic and Staff Assistance Program (ASAP)

We are excited to announce that Perynn D’Alba, M.A and Uma Anand, Ph.D. have joined our us. Perynn and Uma will be great additions to our larger team!


Disability Management Services

DMS has offered the TRTW/reassignment position to our top candidate and she has accepted! The planned start date is February 22nd, 2021.

Kyung Joo (Karen) Lee is currently an HR Generalist for CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center and will be working remotely from Los Angeles for the time being. We certainly hope to see her on Zoom very soon!


HR and HRBP Program and Services

May Sun-Young comes to us as a project manager with 15 happy years at Stanford Hospital and Clinic and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford where she served as a strategic HR Business Partner to the CNO and Patient Care Services leaders at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and as Employee Relations Manager for Stanford Health as a part of shared services for both hospitals. After transitioning from Stanford, more recently she completed an interim contract assignment as Senior Employee Relations Manager with Genentech in 2020.  During her career span, May enjoyed coaching and working with leaders in employee engagement, labor and employee relations, next generation leader development, retention, reorganization, process improvement, workforce planning and talent acquisition.  She collaborated with Patient Care leaders and Learning and Development in designing, testing and implementing stay interview tools for leaders as a retention and employee engagement strategy.  She participated in cross functional process improvements including career ladder developments, streamlining interviewing process for the new graduate nurse program, standardizing processes for on-boarding interns and contractor managers, and establishing positive employee relations strategies.

May has SHMR-SCP and Strategic HRBP certifications and received her MA in Human Resources Organizational Development from University of San Francisco.

Leadership Recruitment & Diversity Services

Alejandra Martinez will be joining the Leadership Recruitment & Diversity Services team on February 4th, 2021. She will be serving as our new Diversity & Outreach Coordinator, supporting our recruitment efforts, leading various department projects, and providing expert guidance on our diversity initiatives. I’ve attached a photo of Alejandra, as well as an introduction below:

Alejandra has a little over two years of experience working in Human Resources and had the unique opportunity of specializing in recruiting for a Tribal government in her former role.  Recruiting for a Native American Tribe opened her eyes to the immense importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge and passion for diversity within her role at UC Davis.

Alejandra received her bachelor’s degree in English from CSU, Sacramento in May of 2018. Her fascination with English literature, storytelling, and writing has developed into a useful skill in the workplace and is also evident in her favorite hobbies— outside of work, she can often be found either reading a new novel or creating short stories of her own.

We are excited to announce Barrett McBride’s appointment as an Interim Director for the Organizational Excellence unit while we conduct an open search to fill this role permanentlyBarrett brings more than 20 years of leadership, coaching and organization development experience to the position. She has worked in multiple facets of the healthcare and higher education throughout her career. Since joining UC Davis in 2013, Barrett developed UCD’s system-wide Executive Leadership Coaching Program and the UCD Coaching Community of Practice, which recently celebrated its second annual Coaching Day. Barrett leads a team of seasoned consultants who provide leadership & executive coaching, organization development, change management services and related development programs on both campuses. Barrett holds a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems, and master’s degrees in Human Development and Organization Development.

She's been a sterile tech for Kaiser, a UCD hospital trauma dispatcher, and surgery tech. Kimm's an avid volunteer in Sacramento and came to the Records team after a stint with UCDH Academic Personnel.

Roxana Carbajal joins us to serve as a HR Business Partner for UC Davis Health, Environmental Services, bringing over 15 years of HR experience to the team.  Prior to taking this role, Roxana provided HR support and direction for 13 behavioral health facilities in the Bay Area. 

Roxana’s previous experience encompass working in the hospitality industry for over 10 years providing all facets of Human Resources Management and Organizational Leadership for multi-site business operations ranging from talent acquisition, staffing, compensation, benefits, employee and labor relations, safety and health, and regulatory compliance.

Roxana earned an M.S in Human Resources from Brandman University and a B.A in Human Resources from Cal State University, Hayward.

Monica Allston joined us to serve as a HR Business Partner for Professional Services at UC Davis Health, bringing 25+ years of HR experience to the team.  Prior to taking on her current role, Monica served as VP of Human Resources at River City Federal Credit Union. 

Monica previously provided a wide range of high-level HR-related support to clients in a diverse range of industries (healthcare, HR business process outsourcing, oil and gas, education, hospitality and quick service restaurant industries), focusing on full employee life cycle needs employee/labor relations and project management.

Monica earned an M.A. in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix and a B.A in Human Relations with an Advanced Certificate in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University. She is certified as a Senior Human Resources Professional (SPHR and SHRM-SCP) and Certified Diversity Recruiter. She resides in Lincoln, CA, with her husband.


UC Davis Health, Volunteer Services

Pratibha Saxena (Prati) is joining UC Davis Health as an Advanced Data Analytics Specialist. Pratibha has more than a decade of experience in Product Implementation, HRIS, Building Dashboards and Data Analysis. In her past roles she was key to establishing a workforce analytics infrastructure and program for Stanford Children’s Health. Pratibha has extensive experience in creating and streamlining statistical metrics for the HR function around Talent Management, Learning & Development, Engagement, Leadership Accountability, Workforce Planning, and Surveys Feedback. She was recently applauded for completing an extensive research and work on SWOT Analysis for entire organization & various departments at Stanford. She helps stakeholders in finding and visualizing evidence-based answers to organization’s need. In her spare time she likes watching movies. As Pratibha takes a career transition break from her recent role at Stanford, she has graciously offered to volunteer her expertise for data analytics at Health to support engagement, DEI and critical recruitment analytics projects and is on placement with the Health HR team through Volunteer Services assignment.

We are pleased to announce that three new employees have joined our team:

Susan McCutcheon, HR Applications Manager

As an HR Applications Manager, Susan McCutcheon leads the HR Applications team which supports existing and new HR applications (e.g. UCPath, TSA for TES, DMS, EAP for ASAP, People Admin, etc.).  Prior to joining WFS, Susan served as 6 years at UC Davis as the Program Manager/Implementation lead for UCPath as part of Admin IT.  She has worked in the UC system for 9 years total.

 

Valerie Orick Business Systems Analyst

Valerie Orick also joins the HR Applications team as Business Systems Analyst to support the applications work that helps our HR professionals succeed.  Val served on the Admin IT UCPath team for 5 years prior to joining WFS and has been with UC Davis for 15 years.

 

 

Randa Wilbur Organizational Change Management Lead

As OCM Lead, Randa Wilbur will help design, manage and deliver key strategies/projects that enable HR and our workforce.  Prior to joining WFS Randa was responsible for the Change Management Practice in Organizational Excellence and also served as the Change Management Lead for the UCPath project. She has been with UC Davis for 4 years.

 

 


NOVEMBER, 2020 UPDATES


Disability Management Services

DMS is pleased to announce and welcome a new staff member to the UCD Health Team, Tammie Haugen, who will be working as the Transitional Return to Work Coordinator and she will begin on December 7th.

Tammie has her Bachelors of Science degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in Corrections, and holds a Certified Professional Disability Management designation from the Insurance Educational Association. She has 25 years’ experience in workers’ compensation, from vocational rehabilitation (in the Minnesota workers’ compensation system) and claims adjusting, to managing employers third party administrated programs. She has over 13 years’ experience in ADA reasonable accommodations. She has previously served at UCI Medical Center and UCLA, and most recently, at UCSD Health. She currently resides in San Diego. Outside of work, she enjoys teaching classes and coaching individuals in transitioning to a whole food plant based mostly raw diet and a healthy lifestyle. She also enjoys reading.
