International Student Advising

Participants will focus on the basic requirements necessary for international students to stay in legal immigration status while attending UC Davis.

Course Description

This course is intended for undergraduate academic and dean’s office advisors who work with international students. Topics covered include SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and working with SISS (Services for International Students and Scholars).

By the end of the course, participants will have reviewed:

  • The responsibilities of F-1 and J-1 students to maintain their immigration status
  • Exceptions to a full course of study: Reduced course loads
  • Dismissals/withdrawals/readmission
  • Regulations pertaining to on and off-campus employment
  • Understanding differing cultural perspectives
