This small group practice lab will help you overcome your fear of public speaking, gain confidence, and connect with an audience/listener.
Course Description
Have you already taken the Dynamic Public Speaking class that SDPS offers taught by Lisa Montanaro, but are looking for an additional opportunity to practice your public speaking skills? Perhaps you already feel confident enough in your speaking that you don’t need an entire course on how to speak, but you love the idea of getting coaching, guidance, and feedback. Or maybe you crave a setting where you can practice specific content that you plan to use in the future for a presentation or pitch.
Well, if any of the above applies to you, come join us for an interactive, small group practice speaking lab. You will work in a safe setting with other like-minded UCD staff to develop content, get some spotlight speaker coaching, have a chance to practice, and get quality feedback. This is a rare opportunity to build necessary workplace (and life and volunteer!) skills in advance in a relaxed, non-threatening setting with an accomplished national speaker who also is a speaking coach.
The coaching feedback provided will be tailored to your unique needs, and delivered in a positive, supportive manner to help build your speaking muscles and get you excited to use them!
While this is a natural complement to the Dynamic Public Speaking class, that class is not a prerequisite. The practice lab is open to all UCD staff.
