Martinez

Martinez is located on the south side of the Carquinez Strait in the San Francisco Bay Area, directly facing the city of Benicia.

The downtown area features a large number of notable old buildings. A Shell refinery plant is nearby. Martinez is a prominent port and petroleum processing location. Summers are warm and dry , with some morning fog when the sea breezes are just right. Winters are mild. Martinez is the bocce ball capital of the United States with hundreds of bocce ball enthusiasts playing on City leagues. Martinez is the birthplace of Joe DiMaggio, famous New York Yankee slugger. You can see his boat, “Joltin' Joe“, at the Marina.
